Seeing-animals-as-equals

For this project I would like to take on the subject making animals equal to us, or at-least symbolize that we are the same and not so different from each other. As we humans have the privilege to do and say as we please a lot more compared to animals. While animals in our world are either living their own live in the wild or they have been chosen to have a certain meaning in our life, such as a pet or even food.
In my opinion I don't find this fair, as animals have feelings and thoughts just like us and have humane needs too. Such as becoming a mother and looking after her children, or just getting itchy and having the need to scratch themselves.

When looking around the house to see what I could ment I realized I have lots of old socks and one pair sock samples that will either be thrown away or be worn once in a while when I feel like wearing an odd sock. But I decided it would be a better idea to mend them together into something different as an up-cycled garment. And also fortunately I was lucky that these socks were fluffy and the colours that I needed to represent the animals I wanted to take pictures of: Pigs and sheep, fluffy pink and creamy colours and textures. I had also found a very old fake leather legging that had been damaged which was also perfect, as this can represent another animal like texture yet it is not made out any animals! :D

Sewing the patchwork of socks and legging into garments to wear: 

When I started making the garment I first started of with making a dress, however once the dress was done I wasn't satisfied with it. As it didn't look as nice as I had hoped, it looked bulky and awkward. I decided to cut it and reshape it into a jumper, removed and added different sock/legging fabric to it too to make it look better than that it was before. Next to that I decided to make shorts with the last pair of patchwork fabric, to wear with the jumper so it is a decent body covering outfit.

Filming and photoshoot at my friends house in Vlietland: 

After finishing the last pieces of the garment I went for a day to my friends house who lives in Vlietland, they have their own animals in their garden that they feed and look after. I thought this was the perfect opportunity for me to go over and take pictures of my friend's Cousin (model: Laura) for my project! And also due to Corona the children farms are closed, there was no way for me to be able to go there to take pictures this year. So luckily I had this wonderful opportunity to still go to Vlietland to film and take pictures!

Trying out and experimenting making a video on Imovie: 

At school I started to experiment with Imovie and the footage that I got, trying to make a movie that shows the meaning of my project yet also making it fun. My first movie that I made I disliked as it seems to somber, the colours and the music in the background all just seems a tad too sad. My next video is more colorful and has a voice over of the letter to my grandmother, this gives more context and a meaning to what the video is about.
